What to expect from your own treatment

Before treatment. Skin gradually loses hydration, collagen and deep fat, which is why cheeks flatten, the jawline softens and lines around the mouth deepen. Filler replaces what has gone rather than adding something that was never there.

 

Immediately after. You will see the change straight away. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising is normal, and usually peaks at 24 to 48 hours.

 

Days four to seven. Swelling settles and the gel begins to integrate with the surrounding tissue.

 

Two weeks. The final appearance is visible. Minor asymmetry and residual swelling have resolved, and this is the point at which before & after photos are genuinely comparable.

 

That last point matters when you are looking at any clinic's gallery. A photograph taken on the day of treatment shows swelling as much as result, which is why a two week gap is the standard worth looking for.

Why results differ between patients

The same treatment does not produce the same photograph on every face. What changes the outcome:

 

  • The area treated. Cheeks and temples take volume. The chin and jawline take structure. Lips and the area around the mouth need a softer product and a lighter hand.
  • Where you are starting from. Filler replaces lost volume, so how much has been lost decides how much the photograph changes.
  • How much product is used. More is not better. The most common reason a before and after looks obvious is that too much went in.
  • Practitioner expertise. Injection depth, placement and restraint are what separate a natural result from an obvious one, and they are the variable you have most control over when choosing where to go.
